Dr. Joyce Levitt. Why I became a dentist. I worked as a dental receptionist, dental assistant, and dental hygienist before making the big decision to apply to the dental program at the University of Toronto.

As a dental assistant I would sit across from the dentist and watch patients clearly experiencing pain and discomfort and think “there must be a better way to do this!”

Dental school taught me some things about pain control but my real education came when I was given the opportunity to do my Masters in Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapy at the University of Dundee in Scotland.

Finally I was given the tools I needed to do it a better way!
